Providing healthcare to 35,000 residents.
KAMANga health centre
There was no hospital in the area before Kamanga Health Centre. There were no doctors if you were sick. There was no safe place to give birth. No doctors to stitch cuts, provide antibiotics, diagnose malaria, or provide vaccinations to your baby.
All that changed in January 2018 when we opened the doors for the first patients to Kamanga Health Centre.
Cedar Tanzania built this hospital and is now running Kamanga Health Centre in a Public-Private-Partnership with Sengerema District Council. This means Kamanga Health Centre is a public hospital that keeps patient expenses at the lowest level possible. Cedar Tanzania continues to exercise administrative and financial control over the hospital.
Through our well-established partnership with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and other channels, we continue to have international doctors volunteer their expertise at Kamanga Health Centre and share their knowledge with our Tanzanian medical staff.
We now treat 1,500 patients per month and average 2 births per day. We also provide free health checks and vaccinations to an average of 600 children under 5 each month.
Mothers retell with joy how Cedar Tanzania and the staff from Kamanga Health Centre has changed their lives.
Prior to the opening of Kamanga Health Centre, there were no options for people in Nyamatongo Ward to seek medical care in the area. The nearest place is Sengerema, at least 1 hour away on a dusty dirt road, or by ferry to Mwanza across Lake Victoria.
Cedar Tanzania worked hard in 2016 to obtain permissions, get architectural drawings, raise funds and develop a close working relationship with the local District Council in Sengerema. In 2017 we broke ground and construction took most of that year.

Medical equipment was donated by Project Cure in the US and in January 2018 we proudly served the first patients from the Nyamatongo Ward. A visit from the Tanzanian Minister of Health and Community Development, Hon Ummy Mwalimu underlined our success.
